This is one of my original hand crafted wooden musical boxes with one of Cynthia's limited edition designs. The top is Paduk and the sides are plum wood. I purchased a box of plum wood at a yard sale and the box was marked as follows: "Plum Tree" Wood grown at 1066 Stearns Dr. L. A. Calif Cut 11959 10/6 (Air Dried) Boxed 5/31/64. The star inlay design (by Cynthia) is made from the plum and paduk used on the side inlay.
The
box has miter cut corners which are doweled for strength and my
signature wooden hinges. It has matte finish from several coats
of hand rubbed tung oil buffed with ultra fine steel wool for a silky smooth surface that is a pleasure to touch. This type of finish showcases the natural
colors, grains, and knots in the woods. The bottom piece made from
basswood to enhance the volume and sound of the musical movement. There
is a small burgundy velvet compartment for jewelry or trinkets The new
Reuge 18 note musical movement was made in Switzerland. Open the box and the music plays, close the box and it stops. If
your speakers are on you should hear a recording of it
